Facilities in Doon International School
Residential – The school provides residential facilities for boys and girls on campus. All the hostels are well appointed and have all the facilities that help the children live and grow in an environment that they can identify as their home. Trained staff members, including a housemistress and a housemaster, along with a whole range of support staff, are entrusted with the well being of the children and to ensure that the needs of our pupils are fully met. The school places much emphasis on the importance of students taking responsibility for themselves, and for each other, within a very carefully supervised framework. For our boarders, the hostel is also home and as such provides every facility for study, leisure and a flourishing sense of community, which can add so much to school days and later life.
Medical – The school has an in house doctor to look after the medical needs of the students. In addition the school also organizes regular health checkups every term. The school keeps a detailed record of the medical history of each student and appropriate medical care is provided as and when required. The school also has a panel of renowned medical specialists whose services are available to the school students as and when required.
Meals – The school dining room provides nourishing, healthy, and balanced meals to the students. The school’s chefs design the menu, keeping in mind the needs and desires of the children. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals are served and the students often play an active part in menu planning. The school is very particular about cultural and religious sentiments and neither pork nor beef are ever served.
Other Facilities – The school has all the facilities of a modern, well-equipped school. Students are encouraged to involve themselves in the various facilities in order to evolve a healthy and well-groomed personality. Students are motivated to form various activity clubs and groups to develop sustained interest and interact with other students. Thus, the school ensures the grooming of students into multi faceted personalities, nurturing their talents and skills.
International Focus
At the time of its inception, the founders of the Doon International School felt the need to create an educational institution that is truly ‘international’ in all aspects, an institution that would fulfill the needs of not just resident Indians, but also those residing outside India. The school believes that the positive aspects of Indian culture, tradition and values must be imbibed in all our children in their formative years. It was therefore felt that the Doon International School, amongst other areas of focus, should also aim at providing complete, quality education to children of parents who reside in other countries. Several initiatives have since been taken and Doon International School now provides an attractive alternative to school students who opt to undertake their studies here in India.
Activities
Music/Dance & Theatre Students at Doon International School are always encouraged to explore their potential in the world of the Arts. The students are trained to play various Indian and Western musical instruments and are also taught Indian & Western Vocal Music.
A special emphasis is laid on Art and Craft work and it is an integral part of the school curriculum. Students are taught to draw, paint and create unique craft work using different mediums, materials and techniques.
Student Clubs
At DIS we practice ‘student centered approach’, where teaching for understanding is coupled with a stimulating and varied curriculum. To inculcate in our students a passion for learning and achievement, we have various clubs and societies of which they can become members. We believe that all our students are unique individuals, with equal potential to make a positive contribution to the school. Our goal is to instil an enthusiasm for lifelong learning. Students under the guidance of a faculty member run their own clubs and organize activities, depending on their interests. They have the option to choose from G.K. Club, Literary Club, Eco Club, Social Service- Interact Club, Debating Club, Photography Club etc .
Interact Rotary International is the world’s first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 Clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self. Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 14 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting. Doon International School’s students are active members of the club and each year, they help complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill.
Eco Club The Eco Club at DIS is a means by which the students are empowered to participate and take up meaningful environmental activities and projects. It is a forum through which students can reach out to influence and engage their parents and neighbourhood communities to promote sound environmental behaviour. Our Eco Club also empowers students to explore environmental concepts and actions beyond the confines of a syllabi of environment education. The school’s Eco Club is abuzz with activities like awareness drives, tree plantation drives, cleanliness drives and recycling projects etc.
GK Club The School’s G.K Club strives to increase the knowledge of the students in various subjects and current affairs. The club also trains them to excel in various inter-school quiz competitions as well as competitive exams. DIS’s coveted Quiz Team has won a number of prestigious Quiz Competitions at the State as well as at the National level.
Debating Society The school’s Debating Society grooms students for the purpose of debate and improvement in extemporaneous speaking. The club not only prepares students for public speaking and inter-school competitions but also deliberates discussions on current issues of national and international importance to raise students’ awareness levels and to inculcate in them skills such as critical thinking and qualities of self-confidence.
Photography Club A picture speaks a thousand words. Students in the Photography Club are taught the art and technique of good photography. The objective here is to teach them the nuances of focus, shutter speed, aperture etc. besides learning how to define objects, distance, angles, color combinations, light and diffusion, size and coverage, vantage positioning and artistic viewpoints. We have a good number of ‘picture perfect’ photographs in the making.
Literary Club The Literary Club at DIS aims to develop analytical and creative thinking. It offers children opportunities to appreciate different types of writings, literature, increase their knowledge about writers and literary classics. The Club also encourages students to showcase their own work in English and Hindi through the school’s quarterly publication, ‘The Bugle’, and the school’s annual magazine, ‘Vision. Students are urged to develop a keen interest in reading and writing. Students also benefit from participating in activities like debates, writing competitions and quizzes which are regularly organised by the club.
